During periods of good winds and moderate seas Galveston offers a wide variety of offshore fishing .some of the closest near offshore fishing is done on the beach front with in sight of the Hotels of Galveston for giant tarpon ,jack fish ,bull reds and black tip sharks ..blue water fishing Is from 20 to 50 miles offshore around rigs ,reefs ,rocks ,pipe stands ,wrecks and hard bottoms ..the main draw in these areas are red snapper ,king mackerel ,dolphin ,ling ,Spanish mackerel and Amber jack ...from 50 miles out and on it's not uncommon to see sailfish and marlin taken by the Bigger charter boats fishing the deep deeper water rigs, platforms and out along the continental Shelf ..charter boats , party boats ,boat ramps , bait camps ,tackle shops and full service marina's are available for the hardcore or novice offshore fisherman .

The surf ,surf piers and Groins dish out a smorgas board of fish which included ,speckle trout, redfish ,flounder, bull Reds, jackfish, Spanish mackeral ,whiting, galftop ,small sharks and on occasions even tarpon, king mackerel and ling are taken off the longer surf piers in periods of clear green water. Most fishermen that target the Galveston bay complex and jetties focus mainly on speckle trout, red fish, bull reds and flounder and are taken in good numbers in season in favorable conditions ....
